Match Preview: Manchester United vs. Barcelona

In the Champion’s League on Tuesday, Manchester United travel to Barcelona for their 2nd leg of the quarterfinals. The Blaugrana come into the match with an all-important away goal from the first leg in Manchester, and they will look to extend their aggregate score at the Camp Nou.

The Barcelona first-team should be rested and hungry for action come Tuesday as many integral players did not make an appearance in Barca’s La Liga game at Huesca over the weekend. Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets and Ivan Rakitic were all given a much needed rest ahead of the important Champions League fixture.

Along with well rested players, Barca will have the option to start Ousmane Dembele as he just returned from injury. The Frenchman has been the victim of a lingering hamstring injury this season, but it seems Dembele will be close to 100% after starting against Huesca over the weekend.

Manchester United will fight a steep, uphill battle at the Camp Nou as Barcelona is as good as unbeatable at home. With the 1-0 deficit the Red Devils face, they will have to play their hearts out to even stand a chance against the mighty Barcelona. However, one shouldn’t underestimate the young Manchester side as they have more than enough talent to frustrate and challenge Barca.

Manchester United will come out of the gate flying, with Marcus Rashford netting a crucial goal to tie the aggregate score in the first half. However, with the fresh legs of most of the Barca first-team, as well as the return of Barca youngster Ousmane Dembele, Manchester United’s chances of a comeback at the Camp nou against the Spanish Champions look minimal. Barca will surely retake control of the game and will explode in the second half, like they have done so many times this season. After displaying exceptional teamplay, Luis Suarez will give Barca the lead early in the second half, followed by a magical goal from Messi, ultimately putting the tie to sleep.

Prediction: Manchester United 1 Barcelona 2 (agg. 1-3)
